On the 27th January 2011, students from Garbally College participated in the South Connacht Schools Cross Country Championships in St. Mary’s College, Galway. Garbally College were represented by students from first year all the way up to sixth year. The day was quite successful altogether as the junior boys team consisting of Donnchadh Reilly, Conor Payne, Jake Curley, Oisin Kenny, Simon Keller, Eoin Stack, Sean Lohan and Ian Fletcher won bronze for their overall team performance and qualified for the Connacht Championships. In the inter boys, Tony McEvilly qualified for the Connacht Finals due to his overall individual performance in his race while the senior boys consisting of Joey Ward, Cathal Moloney, Robert McKenna, Alan Loughnane, Keith Geraghty, Paul Quinlan, Niall Gibbons and Padraic McHugh also qualified after finishing 4th in the overall team standings.
Other students that competed were Lucian Brooks and Tom Butler in the inter category. While no medals were won in the Connacht Finals, there were strong performances by many students throughout the South Connacht and Connacht Championships. There indeed is a bright future for Cross Country in Garbally College. We would like to thank Ms. Collette Quinn for all her work with the Cross Country team.
Our Cross Country heroes relax after a tough year.
